There are a few ways to make money in this game. The easiest way is to just play the game - kill monsters and complete quests. Remember to identify all of the blue, purple and gold items you find as their sell value can be increased quite nicely by identifying them before selling them. Quite a few quests offer cash rewards as well, and a lot of quests in Prophecies offer skill rewards (getting a skill as a freebie like this saves you the need to buy it from a trainer). Some quests in Factions and Nightfall also offer collectable items such as Battle Commendations or Monastery Credits - you can trade these in at special quartermasters for adventuring supplies which saves you some money. Another thing you can do for money if you have access to Nightfall is raid the treasures - these can give you a decent injection of cash and a gold or purple item if you can find them.

Another important thing about earning money is to not spend it on things you don't need or can get for free. Split the things that you want for your character into two categories: stuff you want and stuff you need. The stuff you want can wait until later when you have some extra cash saved up, while the stuff you need can be budgeted for first.

Give yourself time at 12th level you are not in need of any great armor as yet.

Get all your armor from collectors at first this is free armor, there is no point in spending any money on armor untill you reach a town that sells the max level armor for your character class.

Pick up everything and then sell it, every gold helps.
Find a low level area with loads of lvl 1 and 2 creatures and solo it so you get all the money and items.
When you start getting blue and purple items use an identification kit to increase their value before selling.

If there is a mission that needs you to go get resources to complete it like the naga pelts needed for a mission in Kaining center/Factions. consider farming them and selling to players.

Wintersday is getting near so check what items collectors want for festival items and consider selling those to players.

It's hard to get through at that level. You'll be dying a great deal, plus, since you don't have any heros yetm you'll have to rely on henchman.

I'd continue in your current campaign, get to a level where you're more confident, preferably 20, and then go for it.

Dont forget that they made GW:EN available to lvl 12 characters and implemented buffs so that the char would have the same amount of health as a lvl 20. His attribute points are also boosted so they are set pretty much like a level 20 char.

You get 2 heroes in GW:EN when you start, but that isn't much. Even with the buffs and heroes you're better off continuing in your campaign.

Even then if you really want to try GW:EN go ahead it was made available to non level 20 characters for a reason.

No, you will not level up faster, you'll just run out and die. Go back and do the story in order. That will level you up fast and you'll have the experience necessary to complete the game and know the story. Just make sure to do all of the quests. Quests are the main way you level up in this game.

And don't go in to EOTN until you're at least level 20 and have both attribute quests, preferably wait until you beat the game first. Even though it does buff your stats up to that of a level 20, you still don't have the experience necessary to beat anything. Unless for some reason, you just pick games up extremely fast and are already a master (doubt you are), you'll just get slaughtered.

Easiest way to make some gold at low level is to find an area where the monsters are fairly easy for you to kill and keep farming that area with henchmen. For instance, the beginning of the missions Borlis Pass and The Frost Gate in the northern shiverpeaks (which i am assuming you've reached by now) have lots of groups of centaurs and minotours that shouldn't prove too difficult for a henchmen team. Just keep killing them over and over by map-travelling back to the mission outpost and going in again. Pick up everything that drops and sell it to the merchant. You're not gonna make a fortune but at lvl12 there aren't really many other options.

Scoundrel's Rise is a good place for low-level farming. The Wavebreakers are easy, and the Skale aren't too bad if you pay attention. Also, to my knowledge, it is the earliest location in Prophecies where gold items drop.

Play the game.
At level 12 is there NO reason you need "1337" gear. Save your money and don't spend it on anything exotic. Using collector armor/items if you have to. The first time I played through Prophecies, I beat the entire game with nothing by my level 15 AL armor from Old Ascalon (I wouldn't recomend that now, though since its so much easier to get money and armor is cheaper now too so its not that big of a deal).
Really, the best way to make money is to not spend it and save up.

yeah collector weapons are pretty good too (I still use some of them for my main character since I have yet to find better green ones!). Collector armor is free for the collecting---and you dont really need to worry about runes and such until you get your max armor (which will only cost 1k a piece, easy to save up if you do all the quests).
So as has been suggested, PLAY the game, you will get drops even with a full henchie team!

Once upon a time many many years ago I got a gold drop in Fort Ranik (or "orange" as I called it). This was back in summer of 05 (before locked chests and whatnot, it was a monster that dropped it), so I'm assuming this doesn't happen anymore. But, you never know.

Though any golds dropped in Ascalon are gonna be crap, regardless of how you get them.
